The Spanish Government has once again expressed its concern over a new announcement by the Israeli Government on the construction of a new settlement in the West Bank, the last of a succession of announcements about its expansion into occupied territory.
The last of these messages refers to the so-called E-1 Corridor, a central hub of the West Bank, as well as the expansion of the Eli and Shilo settlements.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this week that he had ordered orders to resume the construction of 3,500 homes in the corridor, a particularly controversial area because the territorial integrity of a future Palestinian state depends on it.
“As it did in its statement of February 23, the Government of Spain
urges the Israeli Government not to authorize new settlements, “according to the note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which recalls that” they are
illegal under international law and constitute a serious threat
for the solution of two states of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by doing
unfeasible a future Palestinian state. ”
